A lot of people find single-cup coffee brewing systems to be a bit underwhelming. The new Tassimo T65 manages to overcome many of these shortcomings. Let’s take a look at what it has to offer.
The Tassimo T65 Brewbot (av. price $169.99) comes with clear, concise instructions and tells you up front what minimal requirements you need to get started. It also comes with an optional water filter. The use of the filter is of course optional, but water quality greatly affects the flavor of your coffee, so consider using it, especially if you are using tap water.
The Tassimo T65 (TAS6515UC) made by Bosch is efficient and surprisingly quiet and heats the water up pretty much immediately. It has warning indicators for every possibility from when it is time to clean it to when there isn’t enough water in its large tank. Its maintenance requirements are pretty much the same as any coffeemaker. Keep it clean if you want to maintain the unit and your coffee’s flavor.
The Tassimo T-discs for the Tassimo B65 Single-Serve Brewer have a barcode on them that allows for precise brewing for optimal taste. There is also a manual override that lets you make a smaller, stronger coffee or a larger, weaker coffee depending on your tastes. They are readily available for purchase online if you have trouble finding them in your area.
You get currently get two free packs of T-discs when you register the T65 machine on Tassimo’s website, giving you a great to try a few and find your favorites. There are plenty of Starbucks varieties (note: no longer available), such as their Latte Primo, Cappuccino Primo, Café Verona, Africa Kitamu, and House Blend, all of which manage to convey coffee shop quality at home with the Tassimo. Gevalia also has some T-discs for this machine, including their Signature Blend (in decaf as well), Caramel Latte Macchiato, their flavorful Cappuccino, and the always-great Latte. The classic Maxwell House is represented as well, offering their Morning Blend, French Roast, Latte and House Blend Decaf. You can also get Carte Noire coffees, such as Voluptuoso and Kenya.
But you’re not just limited to coffee with this machine. You can also make Suchard Hot Chocolate, Twinings Chai Tea Latte, delicious Milka hot chocolate and Tazo teas. All are great in their own right.
All in all, the Tassimo T65 Brewbot is a great one-cup coffee maker. It has its quirks, as you’ll soon discover, but most of that has to do with your personal tastes. If you prefer your coffee stronger, you can use more discs, for example. The best thing about this is that the Tassimo takes it all in stride and is very accommodating.
