Regularly cleaning your TASSIMO machine will keep it brewing better and longer than if you neglect to clean the interior and brew mechanism. Cleaning your TASSIMO machine is made easy with mostly dishwasher safe parts. Every piece of the machine except the waster container is machine washable. Follow these simple instructions for cleaning your machine:

How To Clean and Descale a TASSIMO Machine

  1. Regularly remove and clean the drip tray, cup stand, and backsplash. When returning these parts to the machine, make sure they are securely placed.

  2. Clean the water expansion outlet using a cloth moistened with white vinegar. This will clear the outlet of mineral deposits caused by water and ensure that water is flowing properly.

  3. Wipe the inside of the brew mechanism and the bar code window with a damp soft cloth.

  4. Remove and clean the piercing unit and T-Disc holder regularly. These parts are easily cleaned using a dishwasher or a soft cloth and liquid soap. It is also recommended that these two parts be washed more often than others if you often use milk or chocolate T-Discs.

  5. Use a cleaning disc (available for purchase online) to flush the machine as often as necessary. Place this cleaning disc in the machine as you would a regular T-Disc so that it fully cleans the machine.

Descaling your Tassimo Coffee Maker is also an important part of keeping the machine operating at it’s maximum potential. Descaling will remove any mineral build-up from water and keep your TASSIMO beverages tasting great. It is recommended that you descale your TASSIMO machine every three months, or when the indicator light for descaling lights up on your machine. Follow these steps to properly descale your machine:

  1. Use a descaling product specifically made for coffeemakers and espresso machines. These products can be purchased online or at select stores. Mix the descaling product following the instructions on the product in the water container and replace the water container on the machine.

  2. Place a mug on the cup stand and insert the cleaning disc into the T-Disc holder. Close the brew mechanism to trigger the Auto light on. Press and release the Start/Stop button.

  3. The descaling product will fill the brew cycle and release the solution into the mug. Empty the mug and allow the machine to sit for half an hour.

  4. Open and close the brew mechanism, leaving the cleaning disc in place, to again trigger the Auto light. Press and release the Start/Stop button to begin another brew cycle.

  5. Empty the mug full of descaling solution and again allow the machine to sit for half an hour.

  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 two more times.

  7. Empty the remaining descaling solution from the water container and rinse the container thoroughly with warm water. Refill the water container with fresh water and replace it on the machine.

  8. Open and close the brew mechanism, leaving the cleaning disc in place, to trigger the Auto light. With a mug in the cup stand, press and release the Start/Stop button to allow a brew cycle of fresh water to cleanse the machine.

  9. Repeat step 8 until you have flushed two full water containers through the machine to fully rinse away the descaling solution.

Hold button for 3 seconds

Folks, these instructions are wrong (or at the very least, outdated) - you need to hold down the button for 3 seconds after you insert the cleaning disc to activate the descaling function of the machine. Your best bet is to refer to the instructions that came with the machine, also available as a PDF on the Tassimo website.

You need to press and hold the brew start button for at least 3 seconds after adding the descale solution to the water tank. This starts the 20 minute descale cycle. If your cup is less than 500 ml, then you will need to empty the cup under the outlet occasionally during the descale pauses.

Mr.

If your red light doesn't go out after cleaning/descaling, you forgot to hold the brew button in for at least 3 seconds to start he process. You really should start over, because you haven't really descaled effectively. Running the cleaning cycle without descaler solution will actually deposit more scale on top of what is already there inside your Tassimo!

Meema

Same problem as Angela dated March 10, 2012. Have followed the descaling instructions to the letter, and the descale light stays on. Any suggestions??

thanks!

I had lost instructions & forgotten about holding button for 3 seconds

PS it says at top "every piece except waster container is machine washable" The waste tank is, but imagine putting the rest in a dish washer

Descaling

I found the same thing. If you press and hold the green light for three seconds the process does itself sending out bursts of water every other minute or so. At the end the light goes off. Be sure you have a large enough container under the spout to accommodate the water. I use a 16 oz mug and don't leave the kitchen. LOL
